Side Note

I thought I would write about something a bit different this week. Something to highlight our struggling economic times. Some of you have been affected and some are living their normal lives. However, I do find that we all have to change somewhat and its a good time to "trim the fat!"

This seems to be a common theme right now, and even though this is a cliche it has never been more applicable. Now is a great time to start preparing food at home, bringing your lunch to work and really paying attention to things that are variable expenses you can control (such as food!)

I meet with people every week to help them sort out their nutritional messes and we usually kill two birds with one stone simply be looking at how often they eat out per week. By reducing eating out you not only save money, but more importantly you save hidden calories in sauces and oils in how the meal was prepared. PLUS you know exactly what is in it! Not only do you save money and calories but you actually have to cook. I know for some of you this is a scary thought but in today's society of immediate gratification, taking time to cook really makes you stop and ask yourself "do I really want to eat this?" It is just like saving for a vacation or new appliance vs. buying it on credit and avoiding an impulse buy. By cooking you can avoid an impulse eat!
